Occupational safety issues

GMP-Advice offers well-founded and efficient solutions for the following topics:

Risk assessments on EHS topics
As a result of the implementation of the European Framework Directive on Occupational Safety (1992), the Occupational Safety and Health Act came into force in Germany in 1996 - the “basic law” of occupational safety in Germany. One of the central requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Act is that the employer carries out risk assessments.

The risk assessment is intended to proactively identify and eliminate hazards before they become a danger or health hazard. The protection of the safety and health of employees in the workplace begins with this assessment.

The following steps have proven useful in practice for carrying out risk assessments:

  • Preparing the risk assessment,
  • Determine the risks,
  • Assessing the risks,
  • Determining specific occupational safety measures,
  • Carrying out the measures
  • Checking the implementation and effectiveness of the measures and
  • Updating the risk assessment
  • Documentation

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Act (ArbSchG), companies are required to provide documentation regardless of their size. The employer must then document the following:

  • the result of the risk assessment,
  • the occupational safety measures based on this and
  • the result of their review

GMP-Advice has many years of profound experience in carrying out risk assessments in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act (also for psychological stress factors), Biological and Hazardous Substances Regulations (BioStoffV and GefStoffV). If you wish, I will establish a system that you can continue to work with.

Integrated management system for EHS

An integrated EHS management system describes the tasks, processes and responsibilities in the areas of environmental protection, energy management, health and safety as well as emergency management and hazard prevention. It forms the basis for the consistent fulfillment of legal and voluntary EHS issues.

EHS audits

Whether environmental management, operational hazardous substance management or risk assessment: GMP-Advice carries out a thorough appraisal, checks the legal compliance of your company as part of an EHS audit and provides you with competent support in the implementation and optimization of your operational environmental and health protection.

Training for employees

Training employees on occupational safety topics is a central part of every occupational safety system. Every trainer is faced with the challenge of getting employees excited about such topics. Active participation of listeners and the use of text, images, audio, video and interactive exercises ensure that employees are sensitized to active occupational safety.

Introduction of online training in occupational safety
A multimedia, web-based training course in occupational safety will delight your employees because everyone can decide for themselves when and where individual training modules are completed. Learning success checks in the form of multiple-choice questions give you as an employer the certainty that your employees have understood the content and that you have fulfilled your obligations.

Handling CMR (carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductively toxic) substances

In principle, special protective measures must be established when dealing with carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductively toxic substances if substitution is not possible.

  • Determine exposure, especially for early identification of increased exposure due to unforeseeable events or accidents
  • Delimit and mark areas
  • Exhaust all technical protective measures
  • If all technical and organizational measures have been exhausted: limit the duration of exposure, wear personal protective equipment
  • Prohibition of recirculation of contaminated air
  • Maintain an exposure register if employees are exposed to CMR substances in a hazardous manner

Permit procedure
In order to ensure the implementation of the necessary safety measures and the necessary supervision when working with increased risks, a permit procedure should be introduced (LOTO).

Working with safety officers

Safety officers are people appointed in writing by entrepreneurs who support the company in implementing measures to prevent work accidents, occupational diseases and work-related health risks. They can be actively involved in occupational safety.

Compliance Program
If a comprehensive inventory of occupational health and safety is required, an EHS audit must be carried out as part of a compliance program. In a final report, deficits are identified and proposed corrective and preventive actions are developed.

Operating instructions

“If hazards in the workplace cannot be avoided by technical protective measures, by changing work procedures, or by using non-hazardous substances and preparations, it is necessary to influence the safety-related behavior of employees. This includes organizational measures, the provision of personal protective equipment and the instruction and information of employees. Operating instructions are an important instrument” (according to the workers’ compensation board):
